The 60-second check

How much is the screen really running your home?

Six quick questions. Answer honestly, nobody is grading you.

What we’re working toward

Small moments. The ones they’ll remember.

Not a perfect childhood. Just more evenings like these, and fewer spent side by side on separate screens.

Parent and child laughing while reading a book together
“One more chapter, please!”
Mother and son building with colourful blocks at the table
Towers instead of tablets
Mother and daughter high-fiving in the kitchen
Little helpers in the kitchen
Father and son reading a book together on the sofa
Dads too

The phone went quiet. The kite went up. This is what we’re working toward.

It starts with five minutes.

Five minutes so you can cook dinner in peace.

Then the car. The restaurant. The waiting room.

Then bedtime.

And one evening you call their name…

…and they don’t look up.

If that moment hurt to read, you’re in the right place. It isn’t your fault. The apps your child loves are built by some of the smartest engineers in the world to be hard to put down. You were never meant to win this on your own, and now you don’t have to.

You are not alone

If you feel guilty, it means you care.

Screens are designed to be hard to put down, for adults and children alike. You’re not failing. You’re up against something built to win, and millions of parents feel exactly the same.

Three weeks from now

Imagine an ordinary Tuesday evening…

Not a perfect family. Just a calmer one, where the screen is a tool again and not the third parent.

Dinner with eye contact

No tablet propped against the water jug. Just stories about their day, the silly ones and the important ones.

Car rides that talk back

Questions, songs, “I spy”. The kind of drives you’ll miss when they’re teenagers.

Boredom that turns into play

Instead of begging for the iPad, they build a fort out of every cushion you own. Let them.

Bedtime without bargaining

No more “five more minutes”. A story, a cuddle and lights out.

What’s inside

A plan that fits your real life

About ten minutes a day. No perfect parenting required.

1
Week one

Understand

Why screens hook young brains so easily, what your child is really asking for when they beg for “one more video”, and the first small change that lowers the pull, starting tonight.

2
Week two

Replace

You can’t just take something away. You have to put something better in its place. Simple routines and play ideas that fill the gaps screens used to fill.

3
Week three

Rebuild

Family screen rules your child helps create, so they actually stick. What to say during meltdowns, and how to get back on track when old habits creep in.

Plus 4 printable bonuses

  • The Family Screen Agreement you sign together
  • 50 no-prep, screen-free activities for tired evenings
  • Calm scripts for screen-time meltdowns
  • A 21-day progress tracker for the fridge

No shame. Ever.

This guide never tells you that you failed. You haven’t. It starts from where your family is today.

Not anti-technology

Screens aren’t the enemy. The goal is balance: a screen as a tool, not a babysitter.

Small steps for busy parents

One 10-minute action a day. Written for tired parents with full lives.

Questions parents ask

Before you start

What ages is this for?

It’s written for parents of children aged 3 to 12. Each week has ideas for little ones (3–6) and for older kids (7–12).

My child melts down when the screen goes off. Is this for us?

Yes. Meltdowns are exactly why the plan is gradual. Nobody will tell you to take everything away overnight. Week one lowers the pull first, and the calm scripts give you the words for the hard moments.

Do I have to ban screens completely?

No. The goal is balance, not a ban. You decide what healthy looks like for your family, and the plan helps you get there.

How do I get the book?

Right after checkout you’ll get an email with your download link. It’s a PDF you can read on your phone, tablet or computer, or print at home.

I work full time. Do I really have time for this?

Each day takes about ten minutes. It was designed for tired parents with busy lives.

I have more than one child. Do I need more copies?

No. One copy is for your whole family, and the plan includes tips for siblings of different ages.

In ten years, you won’t remember the screen time you cut. You’ll remember the moments you got back.

Start tonight, with one small change. Ten minutes. That’s all it takes to begin.

Here it is

Your Screen-Free Evening Checklist

  1. Put phones and tablets to “sleep” in the kitchen at night, chargers included.
  2. Give a 10-minute warning before screens go off, with a timer your child can see.
  3. Leave one “yes” activity on the table: a puzzle, play dough or a sketchbook.
  4. Eat dinner with every screen out of sight, including yours.
  5. Ask one fun question at dinner: “What made you laugh today?”
  6. Step outside for ten minutes after dinner, even if it’s just the doorstep.
  7. Let them help: set the table, wash the veggies, feed the pet.
  8. Read one story together, or let them “read” one to you.
  9. Swap the bedtime screen for an audio story or quiet music.
  10. Notice one good moment and say it out loud: “I loved building that with you.”
